Davies White Ltd were commissioned by Bath and North East Somerset Council to engage, design and project manage the delivery of a massive £800K Playscape and skate park in Midsomer Norton, twenty minutes south of Bath. The scheme formed part of the governments Pathfinder funding programme.
The design aimed to create a series of playful spaces through the site, each space with a different play focus, starting with climbing, swinging and water play for younger children, leading onto a high slide and climbing trees, followed by large towers, trampolines and zip wire. All the spaces we given continuity through tree planting, earth forms and the overall use of natural materials like timber sand and rocks.
In addition to the Play Space, we designed a flood lit sports pitch, which can operate as a stand-alone facility to be rented out to sports group to help generate revenue for the long term maintenance of the park. Pedestrian and vehicle access to the site, car parking & traffic calming measures were also an important part of the development.
