Where history takes flight through play — a fully inclusive, aviation-inspired landscape igniting imagination at IWM Duxford.

Weston Playzone at IWM Duxford

Designed and managed by Davies White Ltd, The Weston Play Zone is a multi-sensory outdoor play space inspired by Duxford’s aviation heritage. Accessibility is at its core, ensuring children of all abilities can explore, climb, and play together.

The Weston Play Zone has become the first ever play area at a museum or heritage attraction to achieve accreditation by PiPA, the national scheme for accessible and inclusive outdoor play.

Following an independent inspection, the Play Zone has been awarded a Silver Accreditation for meeting criteria for accessibility, sensory-rich environments and dynamic play experiences.

Completed:  2024 Client: Imperial War Museum Budget:  £1.2m

In collaboration with the charity Little Miracles, IWM has ensured the Weston Play Zone caters to children of all ages and access requirements. Feedback from families and focus groups has been used to enhance the experience for children with additional needs and disabilities. This valuable input informed the creation of bespoke equipment, such as ground-level trampolines, quieter areas, and noise-making elements, making the Weston Play Zone a fun and inclusive space for all to enjoy.
