PROJECTS

Designing a story-led adventure landscape for Hobbledown, where nature, play, and mythical quests spark family imagination.

Hobbledown Children's Farm

Davies White Ltd were appointed as lead landscape architects for the full design and delivery of Hobbledown. A story-led, family adventure park in Surrey. From RIBA Stage 1 to 6, we developed a masterplan and detailed landscape design that seamlessly blended imaginative play, immersive storytelling, and specialist animal habitats into a cohesive, nature-rich visitor experience for all ages.

Working with play experts from Germany and animal habitat specialists, we designed enclosures for otters, meerkats, goats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, llamas, horses, and birds; balancing welfare with immersive visitor experiences. The project won awards for design, engagement, and visitor experience, setting a new benchmark for narrative-led play environments in the UK’s family attraction sector.

Completed:  2013 Client: The Hobblers at Hobbledown Budget:  £1.2m

We collaborated with the author and illustrator of Hobbledown to co-develop a narrative-driven landscape where fiction shaped reality and vice versa. Our concept for the Hobblers’ Caves hidden for a year before their dramatic “discovery” captured children’s imaginations. A giant scale model and creative workshops ensured the fantasy world was fully integrated across tunnels, planting, play zones, and themed environments.
