PROJECTS

Co-designing a playful landscape layer within Mayfair’s historic Grosvenor Square through meaningful community engagement.

Grosvenor Square, London

Davies White Ltd joined the design team for Grosvenor Square during RIBA Stages 1–3, collaborating with Tonkin Liu Architects, Nigel Dunnett, Gary Grant, Cordula Zeidler and Make:Good. The transformation marks the fourth redesign in its 300‑year history, rooted in a vision to blend heritage with nature. Our role included weaving in a playful, sensory-led landscape layer aligned with the overarching biodiversity-led strategy.

Our contributions informed a playful, nature-connected layer within the wider design introducing landforms, wildlife-focused planting, and informal play inspired by the woodland structures. Designed to sit seamlessly within Nigel Dunnett’s biodiverse planting strategy, these features encourage curiosity, creativity, and rest; supporting Grosvenor’s vision for a joyful, climate-resilient, community-centred public square. RIBA Stage 4 is now being developed and delivered by BDP with continued input from Nigel Dunnett.

We supported the Make:Good in-person engagement with families, schools, and youth groups to explore how playful, sensory, and seasonal elements could be embedded into the landscape masterplan. Through model making, planting exercises and storytelling, we co-developed concepts that reflect community priorities and complement the square’s heritage ensuring children and young people had a clear voice in shaping this extraordinary green space.
