PROJECTS

A landscape-led play strategy delivering a nature-inspired trail and destinations that invite adventure and discovery.

Ferry Meadows Country Park

Davies White Ltd were appointed by Nene Park Trust to develop a playful landscape strategy for Ferry Meadows Country Park and then detail design and manage the delivery of three destination spaces; Otter, Badger, and Fox Play. Each space responds to its unique setting; woodland, meadow, or lakeside using natural materials, inclusive design, and playful landscapes to encourage nature connection, adventure, and wellbeing for families visiting one of the region’s most popular green spaces.

Otter Play introduced sand and water play with fossils and log features for toddlers. Badger Play followed with a den-themed structure, in-ground trampoline, rainwater swales, and a living willow badger. Fox Play, the largest, spans 7,800m² with climbing towers, forest fountains, accessible swings and 1,500+ plants. The play strategy demonstrates how natural play can transform parkland and deepen community engagement across generations. Nominated by Davies White Ltd, Nene Park Trust won Client of the Year at the 2016 Landscape Institute Awards.

Engagement was central to the design process. Davies White led creative workshops with local schools, families, and community groups including Little Miracles. Children’s ideas shaped features like the badger den, water ditches, and climbing logs. Activities included site visits, sketching, model making, and playful planting; all rooted in a co-design approach that ensured each play space felt meaningful, memorable, and welcoming to all.
