Exploring Nature and Place Through Virtual Reality

The Zoflora Caudwell Wild Garden Project

Davies White Ltd embraced innovation by producing an immersive digital fly-through of the Zoflora & Caudwell Children’s Wild Garden. The CGI film offered children, families, clinicians and supporters a new way to step inside the design before it was built, sparking ideas and feedback. By blending storytelling with technology, the fly-through became a powerful engagement tool. The film even featured in Zoflora's 2017 marketing campaign for Lavender Escape.

Workshops also explored new ways of seeing and imagining design. Alongside sketching and model-making, participants used simple cardboard VR goggles to step inside a 3D fly-through of the garden. This blend of analogue craft and digital technology turned abstract drawings into lived experience, making it easier for children and families to visualise ideas, suggest changes, and feel fully part of the process. The film was funded by garden sponsor, Zoflora and used as part of their 2017 marketing campaign.

In our engagement work we combine the best of craft and technology. Alongside model-making, planting workshops and quick sketches, we introduced simple cardboard VR goggles. By slotting a smartphone into the viewer, children, families and staff could step inside a 3D fly-through of the design. This mix of handmade and digital tools made the process playful and inclusive, helping everyone to imagine the garden, share ideas and feel real ownership of the final design.
