Illustrator: Working with the Josh Knowles
Josh Knowles is a talented illustrator and visual storyteller who has collaborated with Davies White Ltd on several projects. He created the charming animated character Hampton the Butterfly for our award-winning Caudwell Children’s Wild Garden – a garden designed to support children with autism across the spectrum. Through a beautifully illustrated storyboard and animated film, Josh helped bring to life Hampton’s journey through the garden, exploring sensory-rich spaces to find where he might feel most at home.

During Adam’s presidency of the Landscape Institute, Josh captured key moments in illustrated form – from live storyboarding the LI’s 90th anniversary awards ceremony to creating an animated film marking the handover during the COVID lockdown. His work continues to bring warmth, clarity, and creativity to our engagement and design process.
Josh enjoys collaboration and translating big ideas into real-world applications, whether working small-scale in his London studio or large-scale in public spaces across the UK and beyond.
A University of Brighton graduate, along with Davies White Josh has also worked in film, live art, and events, lectured in art and film since 2006.
Completed: Ongoing Client: Various Budget: £1m
Josh also designed a child-friendly map of the garden and has since worked with us on projects including the Weston Play Zone at IWM Duxford, where he skilfully visualised stakeholder workshop discussions through large-format storyboards.
